Why use Murata's High-Cap MLCC ceramic chips over Ta and Al capacitors? Murata's ceramic chips offer better reliability, electrical performance, no polarity and allow design engineers to downsize designs with various package options from 0402 X5R 1uF to 1206 X5R 100uF. The GRM product series is offered with a Nickel (Ni) barrier termination plated with Matte Tin (Sn), and is RoHS compliant.
The Murata Hi-cap Ta replacement product lineup is available in X5R, X7R, Y5V and other TC's with a capacitance of 1uF and larger. This line of high volumetric capacitance is available in 4V, 6.3V, 10V, 16V, 25V and 50V that has excellent high frequency noise absorption performance compared to Ta and Al caps. Stringent dimensional tolerances allow highly reliable, high-speed automatic chip placement on PCBs. For bypass/decoupling applications above approximately 100kHz capacitors can be replaced with MLCC capacitance values of 1/2 to 1/5 the value of the Ta.
